On the 8th of July, 2011, the University of Goroka celebrated the ground Breaking ceremony of its multi-million Kina dormitories for its students. Stage one of the project has been completed and stages 2-4 is still to come. Attending the ceremony was his Excellency, Mr Qiu Bohua, The Chinese ambassador to PNG, Guest of Honour, Mr Sam Abel (Acting Prime Minister of PNG) And other dignitaries. The completed stage 1 of the dormitories was opened by Mr Sam Abel and the ground breaking of stages 2-4.
It was a very proud moment for the University of Goroka which is boasting some of the most spectacular building in PNG, If not the Pacific. Its a sure sign of this Public institution moving forward after the hurdles it has faced over the last couple of years which included staff and students strikes which threatened to destabilise the institution.
